Chris,
He was Walter "Wally" Raymond. His service number was actually 36262.
He was born on 9 Feb. 1919 in Christchurch. Raymond joined the RNZAF in Sept. 39 but transferred to the RAF in April 1940. After serving with 98 Sqn. during the Battle of France, he was posted to 1 Sqn. in Dec. 40 (presumably after conversion training) serving until Feb. 42. He was then loaned to the RNZAF, serving as a flight commander in 16 Sqn. RNZAF. After return to the UK he joined 501 Sqn. in Feb. 1944 serving as B Flt. commander 27 July to Feb. 1945. Raymond transferred back to the RNZAF in April 1945 (NZ2428.)
