As soon as I saw the photo I knew it was a French Caudron design and not a British De Haviland 85 which has the same V wing struts and long under-carriage struts high on the fuselage close to the cockpit region of which I have one ex-French example in German markings. I had reason to believe that the Germans had another different Caudron C480 but had not seen any photos until now.
Sorry I cannot add anything to your Salmson D.6 Cri Cri questions and JG 53 other than fighter squadrons did acquire (unoficaially) odd types to use as Unit 'hacks'.
