Re: Loss(es) of Me 262 B-1a/U1 in March 1945
Hi
So far, I am not aware of any evidence of a construction of this type in the Me 262. Drawings, sample construction, airplane photos, test reports, ... nothing points to this weapon in a Me 262..- so far -.
The fuselage of the Me 262 has a maximum cross-section of 1.68 m in height (area in the middle of the pilots cab). There were fueltanks in front of the pilot. There were fueltanks behind and below the observer / radio operator.
The installation of a MG 151/20 in front of the Spant 7190 should not be possible without further changes to the built-in components in the night fighter. Removing the rear fueltanks of the night fighter has a negative effect on flight time. Converting the fueltanks to the rear would change the center of gravity and negative for the frame stability.
If the MG 151/20 (176 cm) were installed after the Spant 7190, 30% or more of this weapon would be located outside the hull.
Regards
Matthias
