Re: Photo Nieuport
Clint
Not sure what we actually are looking at, but some points which are strange.
a) Robert Casari does not mention any N9041 as being delivered to the US AEF.
b) The serial presentation is very unusual for either a French or US operated Nieuport. I have now looked at some 150 photos and not a single one carry their numbers on the fuselage. The US didn't repaint the French style s/n. They added to them.
c) The absolute majority of French primary and fighter trainers (Nieuport) went to Issoudun (3rd AIC), but 102 Aero Sq was not part of that establishment. I have very little about that unit (close to zero in fact) but what I have found out, it belonged to the 2nd Aviation Instruction Center
I am basically useless in identifying wrecks. Don't know why, but I simply seems to lack that eye.
But is it really a Nieuport we are looking at?
Cheers
