Since the fuel tank was built in June 44 and the aircraft went down in Aug 44, by comparing the s/n of the aircraft and when they were built, you may get lucky and narrow down your search. Any aircraft completed before June 3, 1944 obviously could not be a contender.

Would a drop tank have this kind of plate ? If yes, any aircraft could carry it, whatever his production date.
