Apparently the Luftwaffe Officer career summaries by Henry L. deZeng IV and Douglas G. Stankey show some confounding, unfortunately:

Credited with 16 victories.
BRINKMANN, Fritz. 12.11.43 Oblt., I./NJG 3. 21.03.44 Oblt., Techn.Offz. of I./JG 302 WIA - shot down by a long range night fighter vic Neuburg, wounded in right hand and left foot - hospitalized - Bf 109 G-6. 12.03.45 Hptm., 8./NJG 3. Believed to have survived the war. Credited with 16 victories.
Boiten gives
Fritz Brinkmann as serving with
I./JG 301 during July 1944.
