The aircraft was in remarkable condition and virtually untouched since it was downed. As such, it was a mine of information on every aspect of production and service of such aircraft. It is extremelly hard if not impossible to find a combat aircraft of WWII in untouched, original condition, apart of few recent remarkable finds.
Rebuilt to flying condition means destroying the original substance, and I have noted that the rule is the original airframe is usually not even documented by means of photos or reports! As such it is a crime of destroying historical materiel and I believe there are such paragraphs in law of several countries.
