Is the Short Crusader, a 1927 Schneider Trophy participant and flown off HMS Eagle by F/O Harry Schofield, a candidate? This one crashed on 11 Sep 1927, sank, but was salvaged a week later. Schofield was injured (serious bruises, no broken bones).

HMS Eagle had taken more British Schneider Trophy a/c on board.
