I./JG 3 went over to flying high protection flights for bomber destroying Fw 190's as well as twin engine detroyers from the ZG units. If not required to provide this high cover on operations then yes they would attack the bomber formations. In April of 1944, I./JG 3 was being equipped with the better performing Bf 109G-6/AS aircraft
