Hi Nick,
On 13 January 1945, at 13:30 German time,
Uffz. Alfred Färber of 1./KG 51 was taking off from
Flugplatz Giebelstadt to make a
werkstattflug in Me 262 A-1a/Jabo W.Nr. 110601 9K+EH when two American P-51Ds made an extremely low strafing attack. The Americans were 1Lt. Walter J. Konantz in P-51 D "Saturday Night" CL-P and 1Lt. Roy D. Miller in P-51 D "Skylark" CL-S both with the 338 FS/55 FG. These screen shots are taken from Miller's cine film. Konantz shot down and killed Färber just outside the airfield boundary and five aircraft were claimed damaged.
