'Yellow 16' recovered today

Hi all

Did see a photo of the fin tip underwater last year and it seemed to have two numbers on it. Due to the age of the airframe and 3-4 ID's, it being repaired is highly likely and the fin unit might well have been replaced. Fin is important as this is where a triangular plate was located although it may be incorrect.

Will need to assess and cross reference the different W.Nr's (0)425 / (3)425 / (5)425 to see if any are the same. 30/40% damage is quite significant for mid 1943 damage and repair if (0)425 / (3)425 is 5425 was lost 5-6 months later

Perhaps there is a repair report in Norway for this airframe? Andreas will have to have a look.

Looking at the recovery photos it was 'Yellow 16' (15?) on its last flight.
Before that it was 'Black 6'
Possiblu 'Black 1' or 'Black 10' before that,
and another black number before that.

2./JG5 or 11./JG5

Usually there is an ID plate 300mm aft of the hatch on the outside and one on the opposite side internally. Ammunition boxes/compass mox, radio/battery box and cockpit consulesoften had the W.Nr painted although often these were mixed up as well.Might well be corroded away.

Possibly the confirmation of Stkz RT+CY to the underside at least can be confirmed with 5425.

Looks as though the MG/FFs were deleted though the ammunition bulge is still there.

MG151 in place and MG17's removed previously.

Very nice embems below cockpit and on engine cowling.

A lot of research needs to be looked at to eventually confirm the W.Nr.

Very nice recovery.

regards
