22 june 1941 Ju-87 loss
In reading the Book Barbarossa Unleashed p 220 it mentions a Ju-87 being hit and downed by a German artillery shell. The observer was with the 18PD, XLVII PK 2 PG. Note there were only 2 Ju-87s lost this day. Does anyone know of any others in WW II? I would say in battles where there is a lot of artillery in use like Stalingrad and Kursk there would have been some.
In WW I a number of aircraft most likely were downed by this cause including possibly Manfred Von Richtofen's 39th, 47th, and 51st victories and Oswald Boeloke's 31st victory.
There was a Spitfire pilot who flew throung the slipstream of one of HMS Warspite's 15 inch shells during the Normandy landings it knocked the plane out of control and the pilot bairly managed to recover a low level.
In Vietnam a USAF transport aircraft was downed by a stray US artillery round.
