The code is listed as Q in Op Order 96 in the 77 Sqn Appendices (AIR 27/659). This would of course only have been the planned aircraft.
The F541 lists the aircraft lost as N1390 (no code listed), which is not correct (this aircraft survived until 1943 when it was lost with 24 OTU).
It is therefore likely that N1390 was KN-Q. Comparison of the Op Orders in the appendices with the F541 supports this.
Regarding code KN-B, a similar comparison would seem to indicate that this was N1508.
Conducting a similar exercise with N1362 (the lost aircraft) gives KN-K as the likely code.
So in the context of the original photo, the crashed aircraft was not N1362 as I suggested. Further ideas welcome!
