80 years ago on 20 August, 1942 1st Lieutenant (reserve) István Horthy, vice regent of Hungary crashed on the Eastern Front with an Italian-made Re.2000 fighter aircraft during his 25th operational sortie shortly after takeoff, when he pulled up too steeply and his aircraft stalled and crashed. He was a staunchly pro-Allied politician who even worked for the Ford Company in Dearborn for a year at the end of the 1920s so many conspiracy theories surfaced immediately after his death.
