I.(J)/LG 2 at Leeuwarden summer 1940?
Dear friends,
In a in June 2000 published (in Dutch) book of Bart Funnekotter called 'ACE De grootste jachtvliegers van de Tweede Wereldoorlog' in translation "Ace The greatest fighterpilots of WWII' it is mentioned that during the summer of 1940 I.(J)/LG 2 with e.g. Hans-Joachim Marseille was stationed at Leeuwarden airfield. This was told to me by a friend. I have not read the book myself yet, but my own sources cannot confirm this. I have not been able to find any evidence that I.(J)/LG 2 has been at Leeuwarden during the summer of 1940. Also Holm cannot confirm this.
Can anyone else confirm this claim?
The only possibility, in my opinion, could be that during the transfer of I.(J)/LG 2 from Jever to Wevelghem in August 1940 the unit has made a landing at Leeuwarden.
Looking forward for your answers,
Jaap
P.s. It could be possible that the same information is mentioned in:
James, T.C.G. The Battle of Britain (Air Defence of Great Britain; vol. 2). London; New York: Frank Cass Publishers, 2000.
