Re: JG54 Victories
Greeting,
as the Normandie-Niemen Memorial asked me the question for a ceremony, I also share the information with you:
On October 15 at 11:40 a.m. (Soviet time), 8 Yak took off for a troop protection mission in the Lenino-Baevo sector (on the Belarus - Russia border - 65 km WSW of Smolensk). At 12 p.m., they engage in combat with 4 FW-190s.
Result: claim 2 FW-190 destroyed and 2 damaged (no trace seems to me of such loss in the German archives)
1 Yak-9 is shot down, pilot Lt Léo Barbier. On the 25th, the Soviets informed the French that he had been buried at Ivanovka/
On Oct 15, 1943, Ulrich Wohnert of 2./JG 54 claimed a LaGG-3 at 300m at 10:04 a.m. (German time or 12:04 p.m. Soviet time) in sector 15 534 (NE Gorki).
The village of Ivanovka is 6.5 km from the center of sector 15334/
The time and the place are concordant, the victory is thus confirmed "scientifically".
