I'm no expert but as Mark indicated these are post-June 1944 ; I believe the 1st. Bomb Wing notified other Wings that they had adopted red colour markings for their 3 Groups on the 18 July, about 3 weeks after 463 was lost. She must have had plain black tail designators in the 2 months she was flying.

Pity she had no name (as the MACR says) as there would probably have been a photo. Incidentally the red was also on the undersides of wing-tips and tailplanes.
