Re: Losses Luftwaffe- May 10,1940,Belgium

Fred, Francois,

Herewith at least some of them:
He-111P (1G+DL) (?) of 3./KG27 at 06.00 crash landed at INGELMUNSTER, West Vlaanderen.
Detailed location mentioned as Kweestraat in Ingelmunster.
Three crew were taken prisoner: Uffz Otto WEHMEYER (pilot), Uffz Arthur VOUGT (navigator) and Uffz Otto MIHITA (engineer). A fourth crew member was missing but it is thought that radio-operator [Uffz] Manfred WISKES/KISKER was able to bale out and probably got killed (10-5 was his 23rd birthday).

He-111P (B3+?S) of 8./KG54, crash landing close to WEVELGEM (SW Kortrijk) at RUISELEDE ~18.30.
Crew: Oblt Volprecht RIEDESEL Freiherr zu Eisenbach (pilot), Ogfr Gerhard FLEMER (Wop), Fw Werner JOEST (Obs), Uffz Eduard KREISS (Eng). Flemer was killed during the flight, the other 3 PoW of the Belgians. Riedesel was later freed by the advancing Germans.

Do-17Z (3Z+?N) of 5./KG77 in ALKEN or VELDWEZELT ~06.30
Crew: FF Olt Helmut BOTT, Ogefr Hermann SPOHR both killed.

I have no Ju-87 of StG76 in Belgium on May 10.

I have a lot of doubts about the Ju52 of KGrzbV172. this unit was fully engaged over Holland. All or most ju-52's, at least those early on May 10, are reported to be of 17./KGrzbV5. Three of these machines were shot down, most of them coming down in dutch Southern Limburg. Where does the aircraft code come from, can you confirm this?

Pieter
