Just to up-date this thread.
Having obtained a copy of the excellent book "Das Jagdflugzeug Messerschmitt Bf 109. Technik / Eigenschaften / Leistung / Stückzahlen / Bewährung" by Michael Baumgartl, I can confirm that the background information regarding the development of the DB 605 D versions is fully covered in that great book!
However, I still feel that the technical documentation of the late DB 605 D engines that is known to exist today is incomplete. Considering that the DB 605 D engine was in production from early 1944, at several major factories and in fighting service from Autumn 1944, there must have been technical documentation for the troops. So, I remain searching for the Handbuch and other documents for the DB 605 D and any information that anyone knows of would be gratefully received!
