Cheers Tom. I have searched the fragments of the ORBs for 242 and 243. Oviously if this is the same chap then he did not go to North Africa.
There is a FL Sutherland from Catterick who took command of 1490 (Fighter Gunnery) flight on 5 May 1942, and is probably the same pilot given command of a flight in 242 Squadron later in May 1942....and then to 243 squadron?
Given the nature of 242 and 243 squadrons in 1942 it seems if he was with them it was only to rack up Spitfire hours.
