Re: Photo LVG C.V

Hi Stig,

I thought that the seller had several interesting photos somewhat ruined by a blight of bluespot. That is why I posted just the one photo I felt was most interesting. As for the other photo you linked to,as you say difficult to read the serial, but I 've used 3325/16 as a 'placeholder'

Now on to your question. If I had felt definite I'd have gone with FA (A) 250 as the unit. But I'm not definite and I am unable to reach a decision on whether the marking we see is a stylised 7,whether it is a tactical number or whether it is a unit marking. Still, and bear in mind this is a structure bearing a heavy load with little certainty, it may be that the unit is FA (A) 250. Have a look at the LVG C.IV in vol.2 P.103 of Aeronaut's LVG aircraft and see what you think.

A point that may speak against this is the Bavarian markings on the tailplane. I also not that the seller has a photo of a crashed Albatros D.Va 7214/17 (I think) flown by von Manteuffel, earlier with FA (A) 292b,is there any link with the other machines? I don't know.

Regards,

Clint
