German Ability in War
While digging through my books, I found a classic "I Joined the Russians" by Count Heinrich von Einsiedel. I picked this book up cheap some thirty years ago and enjoy reading it.
One observation of Count Einsiedel speaks volumes: " Sometimes near a small farm or settlement were scattered five, ten or even twenty disabled Shermans or T-34s. In the village would be a destroyed German antiaircraft gun , a tank left laying on the street , an uncoupled anti tank gun, a heap of antitank mines, and a few dozen dead Germans who had sold their lives here as dearly as possible".
