The subject in Germany of who constitutes a traitor is pretty fraught, in light of the heavy politicisation of the July 20 conspirators postwar. Someone like Hans Speidel obviously benefited enormously from his association with the plot. To actively take up the Soviet cause, like the Seydlitz gang did, was for most Germans of that generation a bridge too far. Some of the more notorious members, such as Paulus, did not dare settle in the BRD but chose the DDR instead.
