Leutnant Josef Heinzeller - 30 May 1944

Hi guys

I too am interested in how this fellow ended up in the USA and what he did there. I haven't found much but from some online sources regarding his daughter Annelies some information can be gleaned. Apparently, she was born on 10 May 1945 and emigrated to the USA in 1955. I was lucky enough to find an online archive of The Catholic World in Pictures issue of 12 September 1955 which has a photo of two girls with the following caption:

Life is just grand for Christl and Annelies Heinzeller, who landed in New York City aboard the U. S. S. General Langfitt. Born in Austria, the Freedom Twins were among 1,210 expellees of German descent who will make new homes in the United States. The girls will live with their parents temporarily at the rectory of Monsignor George E. Murdock, Pastor of Sacred Heart Church, in Mt. Vernon, N. Y. (NC Photos)

So it can be inferred that the family arrived to the USA in September 1955 and were refugees. The search continues ...

Horrido!

Leo
