Feldwebel Herbert Franke - 13 July 1943
Hi guys
I have read that this 14 victory ace of I./JG 53 was among a group of seven pilots traveling to Vibo Valentia on an He 111 twin-engined bomber when the aircraft attempted to land during a bombing raid and ended in the Tyrrhenian Sea on 13 July 1943. All on board were injured and he remained in hospital at Naples until February 1944. I have looked through the online QM 6 files but without success as I have no idea which unit this aircraft belonged to. Is there any additional information on this incident?
