Re: Battle of Britain 1940: The Finest Hour's Human Cost
Publishers are always looking for the quick and easy. On a side note, I am disappointed by a partial lack of "looking for something new," which means, "The public probably does not know about this so why take the risk?" As this site shows, there are a few who do make the effort.
I've been involved in book marketing for some years. In the case of the BoB, the formula appears to be, get a name author and find a new, possibly unexplored angle.
The average buyer is unaware, or only vaguely aware, of other books on the subject. Also, the average buyer has also been conditioned to believe that something new also means something better. Sometimes without sufficient evidence that this is indeed the case for any particular book.
