A bit more detail. Capt. Scott recounted the action in Kenn Rust's "Fourteenth AF story", they flew to A-1 Hsinching, Ground Control gave a contact 40 m. away (could be NW Chengdu); they found and shot down an un-identified twin-engine aircraft. Confirmed as destroyed in Study 85; the first 426th victory from a total of 9. The relatively low score shows the decreasing air activity and they flew more intruder missions.
After arriving from India they were to have 6 P-61s at Chengdu and 6 at Liuchow but they had to abandon the latter on Nov.7 due to the big Jap offensive south in E. China and the flight went to Chengdu. Scott and Phillips were awarded a half-share each.
