Photo 1. B-24J (late) 42-100191 22BG "Red Raiders"; artwork "Bugs" with bomb. N. Guinea / Phillipines, yellow sqn. colour tail band.
2. B-24D-1 42-72806 modified with nose turret, 90BG "Jolly Rogers" shot down by "Tony" 1 Dec. 43 on Moresby PNG mission, MACR 2085. Wreck found in 1970 and a book followed in 1990 by Mike Cundiff.
3. B-17F 42-5897 SG-A 385BG, "He Haw" was added later; 35 missions, salvaged 29 May 45.
4 and 5. Both 78FS/15FG on Hawaii before deployment; numbers 200-249, sqn. colour yellow bands on P-40K. P-47Ds same numbers, black-yellow-black cowls with sqn. "Bushmasters" badge. To Iwo Jima 1945.
6. B-17F 42-30149 XM-A2 (second "A" in sqn.), 94BG, MIA Schweinfurt 14 Oct. 43 probably by fighters. Group lost 6 from 60 total. MACR 790.
8. F-7A (Photo) 42-73048 20th CMS "Hawkeyes" (6th PRG, 5th AF); scrapped probably on N. Guinea. Wright Field had recommended blue camouflage for F-7s on Oct. 16 1943 and the 2 shades were listed as "Aerial Blue" and "Shadow Blue" but no colour references. In the event from about May 44 the blue was partly or full removed sometimes leaving patches.
9. B-24D 41-24074 90BG/ 5th AF (Fifth AF badge on nose), this is the 319th. "Asterperious" Sqn. with skull / crossbones on a blue panel. Returned USA.
10. B-17F 42-30414 385BG; damaged by exploding bomb on base 3 Sept. 43 before the Paris mission by 4th. Wing which was scrapped. Salvaged 31 Jan. 44.
