🇬🇧🌺 Today, we remember and celebrate the incredible life of Alan “Mac” McQuillin, a D-Day veteran who passed away last month aged 102.
At just 21 years old, Mac landed on the beaches of Normandy in June 1944, helping to establish and maintain forward airstrips under fire as part of the Royal Air Force servicing commandos. His courage, dedication, and spirit embodied the very best of his generation.
Mac’s service didn’t stop after the war, he went on to become Britain’s oldest paperboy, delivering newspapers well into his nineties, always with a smile and a story to share. Known for his sharp mind, warm humour, and the belief that “you did anything to help anybody,” he inspired all who knew him.
On his 100th birthday, Mac credited his long life to “a full English breakfast and malt whiskey” — a testament to his charm and wit.
Major Austin Hind, a close friend, summed it up perfectly: Mac was “fit as a fiddle, still sharp of mind, and a hero in the truest sense of the word.”
Rest easy, Mac. Your service, your kindness, and your spirit will never be forgotten. ❤️
