The Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands, the Ministry of Defence, and the Indonesian government will jointly investigate the wreckage of a Glenn Martin WH3 M-574 bomber. This aircraft crashed in the jungles of Kalimantan, Indonesia, in January 1941. The wreckage was rediscovered in 2019 and appears to be in relatively good condition. Planning for the joint investigation has already begun, and the actual field investigation is expected in 2026. The aim of the investigation is to map the wreckage, but also to assess what should be done with the remains and to locate the temporary graves of the crew members. This initiative serves as a starting point for further research into the various types of aircraft that served in Dutch service, both in Europe and beyond. The results of this investigation will be added to the online database Maritime Stepping Stones (MaSS). This will ensure that the information and stories about these historical discoveries become accessible to a wide audience. Read more in the message on our website:
