Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Post 3559. This is B-24H 42-51112, 453BG H+ (+ = 733BS) lost 31 March 45 on Mission 920 to Brunswick rail yards (secondary target) ; note on photo says Salzgitter but MACR 13735 has near Hameln. Both in the area of target though. Black-white tail, Douglas line number 634 on nose. Pilot 1/Lt. R. C. Bussell.
Post 3557 photo 2. Evidently a B-24 crashed on one of the 2 Fifteenth AF missions to Bratislava oil targets in 1944 (June 16 and 20 Sept). She seems to be unpainted and the B-24s lost on 16th. were all camouflaged, 3 376BG and 1 450BG. 1 of the 2 lost on the 20th was NMF (42-50885) but this was no.89, 485BG in Hungary. Number 79 is a mystery but would be 4th sqn.
Post 3558. No idea; tail artwork was quite common in the Fifteenth but the letter "X" would indicate Eighth AF; there is another shot showing the whole pin-up, maybe temporary as it's quite roughly done.
