Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Not sure how you read Jackson's pages Nick, nor how he interprets the known facts.

First of all the Greek Naval Air Service during the 1920s was a very small affair.
In 1930 the Greek Army and Navy made a sort of amalgamation into something called EPA
(Ethniki Polemiki Aeroporia)
That made both Arms come together under a single Aviation Ministry (Ipourghion Aeroporias)
The unification progressed up to 16 Nov 1935 when the Hellenic Air Force was formed
(Elliniki Vassiliki Aeroporia)
From that point there was no Naval Air Arm at all. So in 1941 this Avro 504O was 100%
Air Force!

For some, to me unknown, reason Jackson has interpreted my friend Ioannis answer to him
that all the licence built Avro 504 in Greece was for the Navy. This is totally incorrect and
something Ioannis would never had said.
The six British built Avros the Navy ordered were a replacement for the Avro 504K they had used
since WW 1
All the E prefixed aircraft were used by the EPA and later the EVA.

Unfortunately the papers of the Greek National Aircraft Factory did not survive WW 2
meaning we don't know exactly how many Avros that were built.
E40 is known as is E6 so probably around 40 seems a pretty safe bet

Cheers
Stig
