Sorry Ed, completely missed the caption--"New Caledonia from Fiji"; so could be 67FS P-400s as they were delivered to Fiji in crates then sent to N. Caledonia where the 67FS and 65th Material Sqn. assembled and tested them at Tontouta. N. Caledonia was the distribution Centre for fighter aircraft in S. Pacific. Markings maybe left over from US. ?


Photo 4. Not actually taken at Rice as that was on the edge of the Mojave Desert in S. California, part of Camp Granite (see picture). More likely at Walterboro but retaining 339FG designator, they certainly used "S".
