Gelb identification markings on fighters in the BoB
This from a report dated 26-Aug-40 covering visits to units of Lfl. 2 in the period 20- to 25-Aug-40 (so the days just before the transfer of almost all of the single- and twin-engine fighters from Lfl. 3 to Lfl. 2 on 28-Aug-40):
"18.) Allgemein
b) Die Luftflotte 2 hat die Flächen-Enden ihrer Jäger gelb gestrichen, eine gute Erkennungsmaßnahme. Die Jäger von Luftflotte 3 haben davon keine Erkenntniss."
