Re: unknown B17 crash at Lower Austria

Hi,

Certainly a 96th BG a/c of the 8th AAF.

With a/c in Squadron letter "G". With what I have The only other mark that I can see is that the tail unit is slightly darker in colour, I can see NO numbers on the tail at all.

Start from there, go through each Squadron in that 96th Bomber Group and find all that crashed, were shot down or lost that had the letter "G", then find which of those a/c fell in Austria (?)Then you will have the answer.

I agree with Paul.
The serial number 42-3343 was to see the war out.
While 42-30343 did go down in Austria, she was a 99th and then 97th BG a/c so would not be in 8th AF markings.
42-3348 went down as Paul said, in France.
