Re: Do 18 KY+YK

Do 18D-3 W.Nr. 731 was built by Dornier Friedrichshafen in 1938. It was lost on 26.09.1939 as M7+YK of 2./506. Following combat with Blackburn Skuas of No. 803 Sq. FAA from HMS "Ark Royal" it made a forced landing in open sea north of the Great Fisher Bank off the east coast of Scotland. The crew was rescued by HMS "Somali" and brought ashore as POW's. The aircraft was then sunk by gunfire from british warships. The crewmembers were: Lt.z.See B. Körner (B), Lt.z.See Frh. v. Reitzenstein (F), Uffz. H. B. Hecht (Hilfs-Beob.) and Uffz. Schmalfeld (Bw).
Please note that 2./506 used the unit code M7+ -K until 25.10.1939 when this Staffel was renumbered 1./406.
