Re: Fw 190 "Drop" tanks - when/if dropped??

Any Pilot lucky enough to survive a few missions would at the first contact with enemy aircraft, Shed that tank immediatly. The reasons are obvious.
A great painting of this moment can be found on the cover of Willi Reschkes fine book, Jagdgeschwader 301/302 "Wilde Sau".
After the drop, many pilots had A few hairy moments, forgetting to switch to internal fuel supply....And found themselves in a very heavy glider. One pilot, I can not recall his name at this moment, Scored a victory in this very situation..... when his engine quit, and the enemy fighter overshot, he opened up with all guns..... scoring perhaps one of the few victories while gliding after his engine quickly ran out of gas. Can any member remember who this was?
