On 11 November 1942 the Wermacht crossed the "demarcation line" between occupied France and Vichy France and occupied in 2 days most of Southern France.

Before this date no German air units were based in Southern France (some aircraft carrying armistice commissions used French airports). After this date German managed the airfields and used them to attack Allied ships and ports in North Africa.
