Afraid not - in this case the information is in the public domain. By scanning a book - unless copyright has lapsed - is retained by the author or their representatives or heirs. Photographs are tricky - commercial photos are copyrighted but as has been discussed in an earlier thread, things like historical photo copyrights are, err, debatable :-)
