Josef Kogel took over from Schmid in October 1942, shortly after an officer on Schmid's staff was charged with being a communist spy. Schmid was caught up in the friction arising from the success of the Anglo-American bombing and came under fire over debunking the exaggerrated Luftwaffe claims. He took command of an air defence unit, sorry I don't know which one.
Kogel left the post shortly after the Schweinfurt and Peenemunde raids to be replaced by Rudolf Wodarg who was in turn replaced by Walter Kienitz.
