Yes, Bannock was flying the only 418 Mosquito that night that encountered German aircraft. This is suported in a number of different 418 documents. He was flying his usual aircraft HR147, coded THZ and named Hairless Joe. The combat report states the German aircraft as an unidentified twin engine a/c shot down near Kitzingen A/F at 0221 hrs. Weather at the time was clear with some ground haze. Bannock did make a claim as a "probably destroyed" but was most certain the a/c crashed as the starboard engine exploded and resulting flash on the ground.
