Re: P47D 42-76100 365FG Crashed 6th November 1944

Good afternoon Trevor !

Your man must be 2nd Lt. Richard C. Gamble, (O-767186) of 388th FG, who was first hit by flak and was preparing to bail out. Whilst those preperation, his a/c was attacke by 3 Me-109 and was shot afire. Lt. Gamble bailed out and landed behind friendly lines. Slightly, injured, he was picked up by a L-4 a/c and returned to the base where stated, that 2 more Me-109 were brought down by AAA in the area near Stolberg/Aachen.

The time-frame was about 12:05 hrs to 13:35hrs. This time window is matching up with actions of II./JG 26 and other Luftwaffe Fighter units.

Best regards,

Horst Weber
