Great Post Nef! WHAT DO THE NUMBERS IN THE PARENTHESIS MEAN?
Some details can be found in Hans Ring/Chris Shores in ‘Luftkampf zwischen Sand und Sonne’ which I believe to be the German Language edition of the great ‘Fighters over the Desert’ (You can call me the Fighter over the DESSERT -lol)IIRC a Bf 109 pilot was returning from a combat mission and saw a schwarm making strafing runs on empty desert while air combat ‘claims’ were overheard on the radio net. He reported this and the matter apparently to be adjudicated by a military court. Sawallisch mysteriously dissapeared on 19 Aug –it has been speculated that he flew into the ocean to avoid the digrace of a court martial. It was then decided to diperse the survivors to other units and the tribunal was never convened to my knowledge.
