Hermann Segatz

Hello Justin

Leutnant Segatz began his career with JG 26, although by the Battle of Britain he was serving with 5./JG 51. By July 1941 he had claimed 13 victories with JG 51, including five during the Battle of Britain. My information is that he then served with 11./JG 1 which was redesignated 8./JG 5 on 10 March 1942. Oberleutnant Segatz was awarded the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold on 25 September 1942. He served as Staffelkapitän of 8./JG 5 until September 1943. Hauptmann Segatz was appointed Gruppenkommandeur of II./JG 1 on 4 February 1944. He had 33 victories at the time. He had 40 victories at the time he was killed in action on 8 March 1944. Some sources claim that he was shot down by Lt Jim Dye of the 355th FS, 4th FG, USAAF but I have no idea how accurate this information is. As you can see, I do not have much more than you! Still, though, I hope to have helped somewhat.

Horrido!

Leo
