Yes, I would have to agree that this is most likely a photo from early on in the war. As mentioned, the position of the swastika overlapping the fin/rudder hinge line would seem to confirm this. I would say that it almost certainly dates the photo to no later than the end of the Battle of Britain in 1940.

It's definitely a He111P because of the air intake on the left side of the engine cowling, and was operational with KG27 'Boelke'. As others have stated, it was part of 9.Staffel, within III.Gruppe. According to the Luftwaffe Order of Battle for 7th September, 1940, III.Gruppe was based at Rennes in France, under the command of Major Freiherr Speck von Sternburg, and equipped with the He111P-2. Stab. and I.Gruppe/KG27 were based at Tours, with II.Gruppe stationed at Dinard and Bourges.
