Re: Rammelt - 14 October 1943

Hi, guys.

Seems that Aders/Held have been able to link more pilots to aircraft that are in the original reports, and I would thus also put a questionmark behind these (however, using surviving log books etc would enable you to do this with certainty).

Of the 6 aircraft which were damaged to different extents due to enemy action on this date, it seems that 4 crashed (and were totally destroyed), while 2 were damaged in emergency landings.

As there was only one person injured (Schedtfeld or Stedtfeld), it is reasonable to suggest that he and the three others made it by using the parachutes.

As Rammelt was the GrK his loss should be noted as II./J.G.51 in the loss listings, and one can rule out the ones mentioning a specific Staffel.

Thus, the possibilities would then be limited to 160030, assuming that he did in fact jump and not perform an emergency landing.

His aircraft would then probably still be under some plowfield near Koblenz... maybe one should bring a metal detector for the next visit to the Bundesarchiv-Bildarchiv?

Regards,
Andreas B
