Re: 253 Sqn on the 21.05.40

Robert,

Not sure it's the exact confirmation you seek but here is what I have on Hurricane losses for 21 May 1940: I have been unable to resolve the claims of Pitcairn and Bär.

A Flight, 229 Squadron, Hawkinge Patrol Arras - Lens

Hurricane P3546. Believed shot down by Bf110 of II./ZG76 and crashed near Étaples 7.30 p.m. Pilot Officer D. DeC. C. Gower killed. Aircraft a write-off.

A Flight, 253 Squadron, Hawkinge Patrol Arras - Lens

Hurricane P3552. Believed shot down by Bf110 of II./ZG76 near Étaples 7.30 p.m. Squadron Leader E. D. Elliott captured. Aircraft a write-off.

A Flight, 601 Squadron, Hawkinge Patrol Lens - Bethune

Hurricane L2088. Suffered engine failure and lost bearings, crash-landing near Abbeville 2.30 p.m. Flying Officer C. J. Riddle unhurt. Aircraft abandoned.
