Re: 2nd Lt Paul Washington Wood 363 FG
If the content of the MACR regarding 2/Lt. Wood's loss is not known to you, here are the details (not much however):
1. Intended destination : “Berlin, Germany”
2. Date/Time/Location: “29 June 1944 / 0800 / Giessen, Germany”
3. Reason of loss: “Unknown”
4. Statement by 2/Lt. Scott: “2nd Lt. WOOD, PAUL WASHINGTON, 0-810473, participating in a Bomber escort mission over Geisen [sic], radioed this remark “I'm heading for home.” He was not contacted since.”
5. There's no German document attached to the MACR (at least to my copy). However, the German document of 10 July 1944 translated as “Concluding report on downings from 29 July 1944, day raid on the area of Middle-Germany”, mentions 9 wrecks of which only one was of a Mustang (a 339th FG aircraft).
6. The MACR says 381 Ftr. Sqd. for 2/Lt Wood. As far as I know, there was no 383rd Fighter Squadron in the 363rd FG.
