There are no MACR reports for the 78th for the two dates you give. However, there are losses for the 6th, 9th and 10th. These may help in your identification:

9/9/1944
MACR 8693 42-76351 78FG 82FS (Pilot: Lt Kenneth L. Moore KIA)

Maj. Quince L Brown. Bristow, OK. 84th Fighter Squadron. P-47D 42-74753 WZ-J "Okie". Maj. Brown was lost on 6 September 1944 in 44-19569 WZ-Z “Okie III” when be bailed out near Schleider having been hit by flak and was subsequently murdered by civilians.
