I have seen photos of Navy a/c that left their tails on the wire as well while the rest of the a/c carried on.
Some ~150 simulated carrier landings were carried out at Munstin before 414017 went to the Shangri-La.
Bob Elder: Although I have had the privilege of several firsts' in qualifying Navy a/c aboard ship, none was more interesting and satisfying than my experience with the Mustang.
